ABOUT ME

IMG_9373.jpg

I was born and raised in Hong Kong and have always been interested in Chinese Medicine. When my father was going through cancer treatments years ago, I felt Chinese Medicine was the only thing that provided him relief and helped him endure radiation and chemotherapy. I remember his Chinese Medicine doctor showed great compassion and care, and she really inspired me. During my father’s final months and after he passed, I went through a hard time, feeling lost, addicted to sleeping pills and anti-depressants just to function. I started getting acupuncture treatments regularly and started feeling a shift inside. It was the beginning of my own healing. I soon began to examine my life’s purpose and decided I would like to help people who are in pain and suffering. I couldn’t help my father heal, but maybe I can help others – those who are battling illnesses, or their loved ones who are dealing with the emotional and physical stress of caretaking, or those who are overwhelmed by the challenges of everyday life.

I strive to help my patients view their health in a holistic way. I worked in corporate America for most of my adult life, so I know the stresses of modern living in a big city very well. Besides getting regular acupuncture and herbal treatments and being mindful of dietary choices, exercise is also very important. Also getting in touch with nature can help calm the body and mind.

Every practitioner-patient interaction (including acupuncture treatments) is an exchange of energy between two people. It’s important to find someone you feel a connection with and whose energy either complements yours or better yet, helps raise yours. It is more than just placing sterile needles in certain areas. Full participation is required on both sides to achieve optimal results. I approach each case with fresh eyes, supported by my deep technical knowledge and my passion for helping people. My greatest joy is helping each patient re-discover their own power.

Remember, your body is doing all the healing itself. I am just a guide who gives your body’s intelligence a gentle nudge to remind you what a magnificent creation you are.

In my spare time I like to do jigsaw puzzles and aerial yoga. Sometimes I paint and play the piano. My passion is traveling - I’ve been to 40+ countries and still counting. I love getting to know different cultures, especially through their food.

TESTIMONIALS

Venessa has a place in my heart. It was random luck that I was paired with her as a clinic patient at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. It was my first time receiving acupuncture. As it turns out, acupuncture treatments with Venessa got me through chemo and recovery. She was the lead practitioner in an amazing teaching environment. We spent at least 20 minutes each session talking about my symptoms, and there was a lot going on. She intuited and understood complicated symptoms associated with chemo, to the body, spirit and mind. The treatments always varied and I always left feeling great. I say this all the time, even almost a year later, acupuncture with Venessa was my best hour and a half each week during chemo. I’ll continue with her for a long time!

This was my first time to try acupuncture, and I was a bit nervous about the process. Venessa was very thorough in her approach and explained what she was doing at each step, which I appreciated. I asked if I could listen to my own music during the procedure, and she was very accommodating. Before we got started, she did a detailed health assessment, methodically asking me questions about my schedule, diet, etc. I could tell she was actively listening to develop a deep understanding of my needs. My goal was to treat my acne, so we discussed ways to do that. But soon we were also focusing on the potential underlying issues. Without any judgment, Venessa helped me identify areas of stress and anxiety that could be causing it, and we discussed a treatment plan to address those as well. She also advised me on some changes I could make to my diet to help. We are now doing regular acupuncture sessions, and each time I leave feeling so relaxed and uplifted. And my face is definitely clearing up, which is a huge relief. Overall I feel more calm and in control of my health. I am so glad to be on the path to healing with her.

I’ve been getting acupuncture treatments at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (PCOM) clinic with several different supervisors and many more interns than supervisors. First, Ms. Lee managed her sessions with me in a timely fashion. Second, regarding my previous treatments overall, I would say with most of the treatments I received an immediate positive affect. Some treatments lingered for a couple of days more. Third, as a demonstration of her care and compassion she would often share treatment suggestions before the fact. Further, when she administered the needles she used a gentle touch, overall. Fourth, Ms. Lee was always positive and therefore approachable. From time to time she exhibited a good sense of humor. Finally, I found Ms. Lee to be a good listener who exudes a quiet confidence which makes you feel you are in good hands. Ms. Lee has a fresh clear complexion—she looks healthy which is appealing and gives you confidence about her abilities since she takes good care of herself. She has a vivaciousness about herself that made me feel good—glad to be alive. Over the 3+ months of weekly meetings I had with Ms. Lee not one was negative. Consequently, if I were to seek an acupuncturist outside of PCOM I would go to Ms. Lee before any of the other interns that have worked on me.

I’ve known Venessa for more than ten years professionally as well as personally. Through the highs and lows that come your way, Venessa has always put others before herself—ensuring that they were ok if they needed support, a happy thought, a sounding board or just someone to listen. I’ve watched her dig in and pursue her true passion and can’t wait to see her put her practice into motion. She’s an amazing and caring person who will always tune in to the needs of her patients—and they’ll all be better off knowing her!

Venessa is very professional, kind, considerate, and compassionate. She is attentive to my problems. So far the acupuncture treatment is working very well for my neuropathy due to chemotherapy and the pain is almost gone. My overall well being has improved a lot.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What can acupuncture treat?

A. The World Health Organization (WHO) published a review of clinical trials finding acupuncture to be effective for treating the following conditions:

  • Pain: TMJ, neck pain, fibromyalgia, epicondylitis, lower back pain, rheumatoid arthritis, pain from trauma and after operations

  • Neurological conditions: headaches, migraines, stroke, hemiplagia, Bell’s Palsy, insomnia

  • Respiratory conditions: allergic rhinitis, tonsilitis, asthma

  • Digestive disorders: epigastric pain, peptic ulcer, gastritis, nausea, vomiting, morning sickness, IBS, chronic ulcerative colitis

  • Urogenital conditions: urinary retention, urinary stones, renal colic, low-libido, chronic prostatitis, recurring UTIs

  • Gynecological conditions: dysmenorrhea, PMS, endometriosis, infertility, mastitis, deficient lactation

  • Cardiovascular disorders: Hypertension, hypotension, coronary heart disease, chest pain

  • Emotional disorders: depression, schizophrenia, anxiety, drug withdrawal, smoking cessation

I am interested in emotional issues and mental wellness, i believe most illnesses have an underlying emotional component. Since Chinese Medicine treats the body holistically, when we treat the emotion we also treat the illness. I’ve also had success in treating fertility patients.

Q. Does acupuncture hurt?

A. The needles we use are finer than hair, you should only feel a little pinch during insertion. Once the needles are in you should not feel any pain.

Q. How many sessions will it take?

A. That really depends on the condition. If it’s an acute condition usually you will see some relief or improvement quickly. If it’s a chronic issues it will require a more treatments, ranging from a few weeks to a few months. Effects of acupuncture are cumulative so the sooner so patients who get consistent treatments will get faster results.

Q. do you take insurance?

A. I do not accept insurance at this time, but I will provide a super bill for submission to your insurance carrier.
